The Taylor Swift Eras Tour public sale is officially canceled, which means your only options at this point are resale sites. This article dives deeper into which sites you should use to buy Taylor Swift tickets, how to avoid scams, and tips for finding good pricing. Let’s go into why there is an entire blog dedicated to Swifties and giving them hope for the Eras tour.
Taylor Swift crashed Spotify when her most recent album released at midnight the night of October 21st. Taylor Swift dominated the Billboard charts when she became the first artist in history to hold the top 10 slots of the Hot 100. So it wasn’t even surprising that Ticketmaster completely crashed when it came time to snag tickets to Taylor Swift’s much-anticipated Eras tour.
But what is shocking is that Taylor’s public sale (scheduled for November 18th) has been canceled for all venues. In light of this tragic news for Swifties, I’m sharing my favorite third party ticket sites with tips on ensuring your tickets are legit so you can still have a chance at seeing Taylor live.
For what it’s worth, Taylor Swift isn’t happy about Ticketmaster’s performance either, according to her Instagram story posted on November 18th. Here’s what Taylor is saying about the Ticketmaster presale experience:
Before I get into navigating the secondary ticket sales market… here’s a little about why I’m passionate about and have extensive experience with the high-demand ticket-buying process: My name’s Taylor (does that make me even more qualified to cover this show??) and my husband and I are avid concert goers, attending everything from stadium tours to small local shows.
We love live music to such an extreme that we now travel full time in our 1986 camper van with our two rescue pups, Ziggy and Ditto, so that we can see every single show we want across the country… and internationally. We’ve waited in lines with hundreds of thousands of fans (both physical and online lines) to get those coveted tickets for high-demand shows. We also have a custom merch shop with Swiftie and Phish items!
Some of the most high-demand shows we’ve seen include:
- Coachella
- Desert Trip
- Garth Brooks Stadium Tour
- Dead & Company – Boulder
- Phish Dick’s
- Phish Mexico
- The Rolling Stones Stadium Tour
- Aerosmith and Macklemore March Madness Free Show (this was in person first-come-first-served craziness of a line)
- Country Thunder Arizona – campsite sales
If you’ve tried to get tickets to these shows, you know just how crazy it can get. But none of these compare to Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour. Millions of fans… that’s right MILLIONS of fans flooded Ticketmaster on November 15th & 16th for the TaylorSwiftTix and Capital One Presale. Over 2 million tickets were sold during her presale events. With that background, let’s get into the secondary market questions…
Where can I buy Taylor Swift Eras Tour tickets?
My favorite secondary market ticket sites are mobile delivery (which all should be for this tour), have a vetting process for the tickets, and are sites I’ve used dozens of times.
TickPick is an established retailer of secondary market tickets with a twist – they’re listings are the final price. All fees are included in the price you see on their website, so you won’t be shocked when it comes time to checkout! They’re easy to use, and have a BestPrice guarantee (if you find the same ticket type at a lower total price on another platform within 30 minutes of buying yours, they give you 110% of the price difference).
It’s important to note that if someone purchased a VIP package with add ons from the Taylor Swift presale, the resale tickets are unlikely to include any of those add ons – just the ticket. This is true for all resale sites.
Because it’s mobile ticket focused, Gametime is a great platform to buy tickets for the Taylor Swift Eras tour.
I started using Gametime when it first launched back in 2013. The whole concept is that you can purchase tickets last minute as well as list your tickets last minute thanks to mobile ticketing technology.
Ticket prices fluctuate based on demand and proximity to showtime, so check periodically on this app to get the best seats and prices. You can use code BOOM335937 for $5 off your first Gametime ticket purchase!
If you’re looking to buy Taylor Swift Eras Tour tickets today, vividseats does have some available. This is a less user friendly but reputable ticket buying/selling platform that has options for every major event.
Now… because SeatGeek was the primary ticket seller for Taylor Swift’s presale shows at State Farm Stadium and AT&T Stadium, they don’t yet have tickets available for resale. It’s likely they will have seats available later on. Even if they don’t, I do prefer SeatGeek over other ticket resellers because it’s so easy to use!
Cash or Trade is a face value site that allows you to either sell your ticket for what you paid or trade for another ticket. Some people are trading their Eras Tour floor tickets for other seating options or trading dates. We like Cash or Trade because if you do buy a ticket, your money is placed into escrow until you confirm you received a legit ticket. It weeds out scammers because of the process and because it only allows selling at face value or trading.
6. Eras Tour Resell Twitter Feed
The Twitter account @ErasTourResell was started by 3 Swifties that were sick of the fees and heartache fans were facing just trying to get tickets. They verify ownership of tickets that they post and offer them for sale at face value! This is a great way to sell or buy tickets at a reasonable price.
You’re going to want to set your notifications on because these listings sell FAST! Also… be careful of dupe accounts – make sure the username is correct before giving them a follow.
Why we don’t recommend StubHub for some Eras Tour purchases:
StubHub is a very well known reseller in the US. They used to be our go-to for the secondary ticket market. However, they recently did not uphold their guarantees after we received fraudulent tickets and left us ticketless 2 days before a high demand show.
SubHub did refund what we paid for tickets 9 months prior to the event. However, ticket prices skyrocketed due to demand so that refund didn’t even cover the current price of a ticket. For that reason, we recommend StubHub for last-minute tickets, but we don’t for purchases far in advance.
At this point, I’m thinking Taylor’s song, Glitch, was actually foreshadowing this entire presale experience for fans…
Tips for avoiding scams when buying Taylor Swift tickets
The scariest part about buying Taylor Swift tickets on resale sites is the risk of getting scammed. You likely saved for the tickets or will need to spend more than you expected, so you don’t want your hard earned money to go to waste. The reality is there is always a risk, but here are some tips for mitigating those risks.
- Use a credit card (not debit) to purchase tickets
Most credit cards have decent purchase protection services. If you are charge for a ticket that turns out to be fake, you should be able to be reimbursed or file it as a fraudulent transaction on your card.
- Buy from reputable resale sites
Use sites like TickPick, Gametime, and the others listed above to protect your purchase. These sites have a vetting process and guarantees to ensure you’re getting a real ticket. I avoid purchasing tickets from Facebook Marketplace, eBay, and directly from the ticket holder (unless I personally know them). Concert tickets are too easy to fake now to truly trust that they’re legit.
If you you do buy private party, make sure to use PayPal Goods & Services. There is a 3% fee imposed on the seller, so you may need to pay just 3% extra for this service. It’s worth it because it fully protects your purchase from potential scammers!
- Confirm URL for the ticket site
This article has hyperlinks for TickPick, Gametime, vividseats, and SeatGeek. Before purchasing tickets, look at the URL in your browser to ensure it is the legit site. Look for the company name like stubhub.com. A fake website could look something like stubbub.com or stubhubticketsforsale.com.
- Opt for a mobile ticket
Every US location for Taylor Swift Eras Tour is a mobile-ticket-only stadium (with the except of security guards gifting Taygating Swifties tickets during the show). This is to speed along the process since 70,000+ people will be attending each show. I would be very weary of buying a physical ticket off resale because it’s unlikely to be accepted at the venue.
- Trust your gut
If you see a floor seat going for $50, it’s not legit. When deals seem too good to be true this far out from the show, they are. At the same time, that’s why I love Gametime! Ticket prices tend to plummet right before the show starts on Gametime. So if you’re willing to risk it, you could wait until the day of to see if you can get some smoking deals on her tickets. We did this for Elton John’s Farewell tour… lower bowl tickets were going for $70 just 5 minutes before show time when they were $400+ only a few days prior.
Are International Taylor Swift Eras Tour tickets transferrable?
At this time, most international tour dates for Taylor Swift Eras Tour are non-transferrable or have unclear policies around transferability.
Currently in Brazil, tickets are a PDF which can open the door to more scammers when buying private but also allow someone to send you a PDF easily. In Europe, there are many more restrictions around transferability. It’s also important to remember that most countries use different ticketing sites, so the way tickets will be dispersed are not the same as they were in the US leg.
Some countries have said the cardholder must be present to attend The Eras Tour. Other countries have been silent on the transferability of tickets, but they have not released tickets to buyers yet.
For all of these reasons, we recommend waiting closer to the date of the show or until ticketing sites are more clear about the ability to transfer tickets.
When is the best time to buy resale tickets for Taylor Swift’s Eras tour?
Ticket prices tend to decrease the 2-3 days before the date of the Taylor Swift show, and usually the day of if you wait last minute. This can be risky but you can also score decent ticket for $100 if you do this. If you’re a Verified Fan that didn’t get tickets, you may receive a code to purchase tickets the week of your registered show. It’s happened for every Ticketmaster venue so far!
When shows first sell out, there is a ton of hype and passion behind ticket buying. People want to make sure they will be able to see the show, so they will pay anything to lock in their tickets. Avoid making the scalpers too happy by waiting it out a while.
Think of a price in your mind that would expect to pay for the Taylor Swift Eras tour. Before you knew what they were going for, what would you have wanted to pay? What was your budget? Track ticket prices over the next few weeks to see if you can find any that match those initial expectations. If they remain crazy expensive, the reality is there will be more for sale on the secondary market closer to the date of the event.
There are many reasons people will resale Taylor Swift tickets other than them being a scalper. The Eras tour kicks off in 2023, so plans change. The most common reason I see people resell tickets are:
- Pregnancy – the ticket holder may not know they are pregnant yet but end up being at the 8 or 9-month mark once the show date approaches. Attending a concert with 80k+ people just isn’t as fun when your baby is due the same week. Or maybe they gave birth around the concert date and don’t want to leave their newborn. This really is a more common reason than you’d think!
- Financial need – life happens and someone may need that cash for other priorities in their life.
- Breakup – the ticket holder may have planned to go to the concert with friends or a partner, but that person is no longer in their lives. They might sell because they just don’t want to think of that person the entire show.
- Better seats – we’ve done this a lot. We buy what we can during the initial sale and find much better seats on the secondary market, so then we list our initial seats for sale.
- Move or travel – the ticket holder may move to a different state or thought travel to the venue would be easier than it is. For example, we’re full time travelers so I have no idea where I’ll be just before the event yet I’ve committed to the Phoenix shows. Due to the logistics of getting to the venue, they decide it’s no longer worth it and sell the tickets.
- Injury or illness – if you’ve broken a bone and tried to attend a huge show before, you know how hard it can be. The Eras tour is in SUCH high demand that the crowd is likely to be pretty wild, so the stress or risk of reinjury might not be worth it to the ticket holder. And of course, if the ticket holder gets COVID or another illness right before the event, they might sell the tickets to try and recoup the cost since they can no longer attend.
We usually find ticket prices tend to lower the week of the show because people are getting nervous they can’t resell the tickets. The best deals we find are right before the show when people unexpectedly can’t go or right after Taylor Swift goes on stage.
That being said, Taylor Swift’s Eras tour has unprecedented demand so nobody can truly predict the resale price for each city. During her Arlington Eras Shows, ticket prices jumped the day of each show, so it really depends on location too!
