Best Hotels in Lagos, Portugal
1. Lagos Avenida Hotel
The Lagos Avenida Hotel is a short walk from Old Town Lagos, the Lagos Marina, and public transportation. This more modern hotel overlooks the Lagos Marina, is 1 km from the famous Praia da Batata & Forte da Ponta da Bandeira, and 4 km from the expansive sandy beach: Meia Praia. Rooms feature free Wi-Fi, flat-screen TVs and minibars, plus tea and coffeemaking equipment. All have en suite, shower-only bathrooms, and private balconies or terraces with sea or city views.

It was formerly a Tivoli hotel and was purchased by NH in the summer of 2026. They’re welcoming to guests and offer a more service-forward hospitality experience.

3. Hotel Marina Rio
Overlooking the marina, this Hotel Marina Rio is a bit more laid back yet just as modern. It’s a 15-minute walk from Praia da Batata, 10-minute walk from the historic Old Town Lagos, and a great location to explore all areas of town. 4. Marina Club Lagos Resort
Marina Club Lagos Resort is a modern all-suite hotel in a relaxed resort on the Marina side of Lagos. There are plenty of restaurants and activities all within the Marina, making it a great place to stay if you want convenience and a more modern feel.
It’s a 5 minutes’ walk from the train station, 13 minutes from Meia Praia, and a 30-minute walk from Old Town Lagos. Room service is available. Parking is free. Resort amenities include a bar, and a restaurant with a terrace. There’s an outdoor pool, a kids’ pool, and a spa with an indoor pool and a fitness room. A playground and bike rentals are also available.
Some suites have elevators and some do not – if you have limited mobility, make sure to ask for a room with an elevator (typically the one-bedroom suites). This is a great option for someone with limited mobility because the marina has a nice paved path, easy to navigate when in a wheelchair.
Note: there is extensive construction nearby right now. Having a room closest to the train station likely means you’ll be in the middle of construction noise during your stay.

5. Água Hotels Lagos Bay
Água Hotels Lagos Bay is a boutique hotel, located on the main street of Lagos city center. This hotel stands out for its elegant, contemporary design combined with 1920s Art Deco, featuring strong natural and botanical elements. It is close to Praia da Batata and in a great location to explore the city on foot with easy access to major cultural attractions, restaurants, and local shops.

6. Hotel Vila Gale (Lagos)
The Vila Galé Lagos hotel is located right over the sands of the expansive beach: Meia Praia with a sweeping view of the sea. It’s a large property with a beautiful garden that’s ideal if you’re looking to stay on property and near the beach. It’s about a 15-20 minute walk to the marina from the hotel.
Offering free wi-fi in all areas, this hotel has spacious and comfortable rooms of several types, from family rooms to rooms with a view and suites. We’ve known large groups that have been able to book several rooms near each other for a big family or friend getaway here. The hotel’s 1,200 m² enormous pool that makes it popular as well.
Vila Galé Lagos also has a Satsanga spa with an indoor panoramic pool, three restaurants featuring a typical regional cuisine, an equipped conference center with a 550 people capacity, children’s club, tennis courts, multi-sports field and a putting green.
Golf lovers also feel at home here because it’s close to the Palmares golf course, designed by Robert Trent Jones Jr.
During the offseason months of April to October, the hotel offers an “all-inclusive” basis is available as well.

7. Casa Mãe
Casa Mãe is more than a hotel; it’s an experience. This abandoned estate by the sea transformed into a dream holiday casa with a boutique and super intimate feel. The restaurant on site sources locally and has relaxing live music weekly.
This boutique hotel is located right along the historic wall of Lagos, which makes for a quiet and peaceful stay. If you want to experience a bit of luxury yet still feel like you’re experiencing the true town of Lagos, this is the hotel I’d recommend.

8. Cascade Wellness Resort
Located on top of the cliffs of Ponta da Piedade, with panoramic views of the Atlantic Ocean near , the Cascade Wellness Resort is just a few minutes from the iconic Ponta da Piedade Lighthouse and its natural trails as well as one of my favorite lesser-known beaches: Praia do Canavial. Here, you can choose between hotel rooms, apartments, or villas, each option designed to provide comfort, privacy, and a distinctive experience in the Algarve.
This is where people stay when they want a resort feel that’s removed from town yet still pretty close to Lagos if you want a night out.

Why are there not more hotels in Lagos, Portugal?
Lagos is a small town of 30k permanent residents that grows up to a population of about 60k in the summer months. There simply isn’t the space or demand for massive hotels like Albufeira. But, what you get in return is a beautiful community of people – a mixture of a tourist and local spot.
That being said, they are building two new hotels near the Lagos train station – updates on those as they are built!
If these hotels we recommend aren’t your vibe, here are some more tips for booking accommodations in Lagos:
- Apartments and homes on booking.com (more popular than Airbnb here, although Airbnb is still an option too)’
- HomeExchange is a great option for bigger homes and villas, especially if you have a home that you’d list while you’re gone as well
- Hostels and guesthouses for a hassle-free and budget-friendly stay
- Extended stays of one to three months instead of a week at a time are pretty common here and can make your bit even more enjoyable
