Mike and I first saw the music of the Grateful Dead live in 2017. Despite being too young to see Jerry, it immediately sparked our journey towards quitting corporate life, traveling full time in a 1986 van while seeing as many shows as possible, and ultimately, moving to Portugal in 2023.
Jeff’s first show? 1977 Spring tour. Carrie? 1978 the year after. Jimbo first saw the Dead as an opener in ’72 with the Allman Brothers. After traveling around Europe together keeping the music alive, our group of Deadhead friends decided it was time to bring the music to our new home town of Lagos, Portugal.
And that’s how Eyes of the Algarve (September 10–12, 2026) came to be. This three-day, grassroots celebration of music and community takes place in the small coastal town of Lagos, Portugal. Inspired by the culture of the Grateful Dead, this first-of-its-kind event brings together an international roster of Deadheads, local artists, and traveling musicians for an unforgettable weekend in the sun.
How Did We Pick the Name?
The name Eyes of the Algarve was mostly inspired by the Grateful Dead song, “Eyes of the World.” We wanted to choose a title that would serve as an immediate callout to fellow Deadheads while remaining warm and inviting to people who have never heard of the Dead. With so much natural beauty, historic architecture, and vibrant coastal energy to explore across this region, Eyes of the Algarve felt like the perfect fit to capture both the spirit of the music and the magic of our home in Portugal.

The Vision Behind the Jam
What started as late-night conversations among a handful of Lagos Deadheads with a shared passion for live music quickly grew into a full-scale cultural gathering. Eyes of the Algarve is part concert, part reunion, and all good vibes.
The event showcases international talent and local Lagos favorites. Headlining both nights of music is Barcelona’s premier Grateful Dead band, Grateful Nights.
Joining Grateful Nights are original rock, jam, blues, folk, live looping, latin, and acoustic artists from Portugal, Germany, Mozambique, Italy, Argentina, Ireland, Spain, the Netherlands, and the United States, including local powerhouse acts Los Pissarros and Franc GuitarO & The MachinE.
Beyond the stages, the venue at Wake Park Lagos will host local artisans selling homemade artwork, themed menus, open-air dancing, and pure, unfiltered good vibes.

Thursday, September 10: Connection & Coastal Vibes
Day one is all about settling into the rhythm of Lagos, getting to know fellow attendees, and exploring the coast.

- 21:00 – Welcome After-Party & Meet-and-Greet in Old Town Lagos
Friday, September 11: High-Energy Jam Sets
Location: Wake Park Lagos (Music: 13:30 – 22:00)
September 11th brings full-band energy, long sets, and incredible live improvisations, culminating in the first headlining performance by Grateful Nights.

Exploring the seaside caves along the coast to Ponta da Piedade by kayak, stand-up paddleboard, or on our official Deadhead catamaran cruise is an absolute must-do.
