We’re live music lovers. Live music fuels our souls and brings people together from around the world. That’s why we’re proud to call Lagos our home. A small beach town in the Algarve region of Portugal where live music fills the air around every corner. It’s almost impossible to not hear live music during your visit, and we wanted to make it easy for you to visit all our favorite places where you can find live music in Lagos, Portugal (and nearby areas like Luz and Burgau).
For some background, we’ve attended over 1,000 concerts together and found our local community in Lagos because of live music. There’s even a whole article about how live music helped us after moving abroad to Portugal. So this list of live music venues is made with love and first-hand experience of seeing shows there.
Best Live Music Venues in Lagos, Portugal:
Live music can be found daily in Lagos when you know the right places to look. Establishments usually post the artists, start times, and dates of shows on their social media pages – make sure to check those ahead of time.
The city of Lagos also posts many free or ticketed live music events on their Facebook page and website. You can find Lagos e~ventos booklets around town at Intermarche, tourist center, city hall, library, etc. if you want a tangible guide. These are the events where you’ll find live music near the castle of Lagos, at museums, and local fests like Arte Doce or Pedra Dura.
Here’s the list of restaurants, bars, and venues where you can find live music on the regular in Lagos, Portugal:
- Grand Café
Grand Café is home to some of the best shows in Lagos – there’s usually a window DJ once the bar opens that’s free for all to listen and a ticketed event upstairs where you can see some of our favorite local bands like MudBlood and Al-Groove.
This is a late-night venue, typically starting at around 22h. The Black Cat across the street often opens its doors a bit earlier with happy hour from 20h-22h.
- LAC (Laboratório de Actividades Criativas)
A prison converted into a community event space makes LAC one of our favorite venues in the entire Algarve. It really is something special when you can be dancing the night away in an actual prison in an event hosted by the city. Make sure to check their website to see when their next show is – they have music of all kinds: soul, funk, electronic, heavy metal, and everything in between.
- Lagos Beer & Co
Lagos Beer & Co regularly hosts live music and recently expanded to welcome more people into their establishment. They host talented local live musicians and DJs that bring a big crowd. They post their monthly and weekly music schedules to their Instagram. Music usually starts around 21h, but they sometimes have earlier sets as well!
- Praça Gil Eanes
Ok… so Praça Gil Eanes isn’t technically a venue, but it can feel that way with how many live performances you can catch in this Praça (plaza) at the center of Old Town Lagos. This is the place to see some solid daytime musicians on rotation. From world renowned violinists to banjo plucking nomads, this town square sees it all.
Fun fact: you are required to have a permit to play in this plaza, which means the musicians that play here are usually very talented and skilled at their craft. In the summers, this praça is home to acrobatic acts and fire breathers as well!
- Praça Don Henrique
Praça Don Henrique is another town square around a church that has several buskers and community events. You might see amazingly beautiful performances during events like Festival dos Descubrimentos. Other times, you’ll find those hidden talents making their way via tips.
It’s worth making the detour as you wander around town to see what’s going on in Praça Don Henrique.
- The Lighthouse
Come to The Lighthouse on Sunday nights to hear one of our favorite local bands, Cecelia Pissarro. She brings high energy, songs you know and love, and some original music. She also plays at several local events, so it’s worth checking out her page to see where she’ll pop up next!
Besides Sundays, The Lighthouse always has either sports or live music on the Marina side of Lagos.
- Lazy Jack’s
Lazy Jack’s loves live music, and they have it every Thursday-Sunday. Make sure to reserve a table if you want a spot on the marina during their Sunday Jazz brunch shows!
- Pôr do Sol
Pôr do Sol translates to sunset in Portuguese (if you’re looking to learn Portuguese, check out that section of our blog too). Back to the music…
Pôr do Sol is located at the end of the boardwalk of Meia Praia. It’s a sandy beach bar and restaurant that often has live acoustic music with good vibes. They’re not active on socials; they don’t have a website, but it’s always worth a visit to this beach bar.
Get all the details on one of the best beaches in Lagos, Meia Praia, on our channel:
- Bahia
For an upscale modern beachside experience with live music, check out Bahia. They have great live music on Sundays, and you do need to make a reservation in advance. If you see Carlos Sax is playing at Bahia, he has amazing energy and is always a good time!
- Duna Beach Lagos
Duna Beach Lagos is not an all-the-time thing. Duna Beach is a series of sunset shows in the summertime in Lagos right on Meia Praia. They bring in a great lineup of DJs and live musicians – a little something for everyone.
Think EuroSummer Beach Club vibes.
Tickets ALWAYS sell out, so you’ll want to make sure to get yours in advance if they have an event during your visit.
- Mullens
Mullens has an old inn type of dark pub vibe. They have live music every Saturday and often an opportunity for an open mic night with talented local musicians.
- Amuras
Jumping back to the marina side for some live shows. Amuras is located directly under The Lighthouse. They often start live music around the time music at Lazy Jack’s end, so you can keep the party going.
I’ll be honest, the music here is hit and miss. Sometimes, you’ll see one of our favorites, Nesha, playing there. Other times, it’s more of a punk garage band style. The audio is challenging in Amuras, but it’s a great place to listen to live music until the next big thing.
- Oasis
Oasis is a great spot on the Marina that isn’t as well known for the visitors. They have a few solo acts playing throughout the week with familiar covers and some high energy. This little restaurant turns into quite the party whenever there’s live music!
- Bom Vivant
Bom Vivant, a multi-story cocktail bar in Old Town Lagos hosts live music and cocktail masterclasses quite often. It doesn’t have a huge dance floor, but it does have spectacular views of town.
Here are some of our other favorite spots in Lagos, Portugal (before we move onto live music venues in Luz and Burgau):
Best Live Music Venues in Luz, Portugal:
The live music doesn’t stop in Lagos, there are several live music spaces in nearby smaller beach towns like Luz, Portugal too! Here are some of our favorites to frequent:
- Ollie’s
You can usually find us at Ollie’s on Tuesday nights during open mic night with Nesha. There are some amazingly talented musicians that show up here. It feels like being part of a private show when they all come together for some great jams.
They also have live music every Friday, even in the off season. I think we can expect more shows throughout the summer months as well.
- The Bull
The Bull in Luz has a live jazz band each Friday evening, sports, and more throughout the week! Come early if you want a table – it fills up quickly.
And if you come during the day, make sure to check out their “secret terrace” with unbeatable views.
- Tito’s
Tito’s Luz is the premier live music venue, located on the outskirts of Luz when coming from Lagos. It’s easy to get to via the number 4 bus, Uber/Bolt, or bicycle. They have great live music throughout the week and special events during holidays.
- The Boardwalk
This isn’t a venue; it’s a literal description of where you can find music daily. There are usually buskers playing along the Praia da Luz boardwalk between Boaty’s and Lazuli Bar. Pick a bench nearby and enjoy the live music while looking at the ocean. It’s a peaceful, serene way to enjoy the Portuguese coast.
- Fortaleza da Luz
The historic Fortaleza da Luz, originally built in 1670, has been converted into a restaurant and live music space. Fortaleza da Luz hosts their famous jazz brunches on Sundays and often has live music throughout the week as well.
This fort has one of the coolest bathrooms I’ve ever been in and spectacular views throughout – it’s worth stopping by for a drink and some music when you’re visiting. But, make sure to book a table for events – it books out quickly!
Best Live Music Venues Near Lagos & Luz:
- Hugo’s Lounge – Burgau
Hugo’s Lounge in Burgau is a new venue that opened in winter of 2025. And I’m glad it did because we saw one of my favorite local bands, Al-groove, play there on my birthday (December 29th). Burgau is the end of the line for the number 4 bus, making it one of the last venues you can access using public transportation.
I’m not sure how often they’ll have live music, but it’s a super cute venue in a chill beach town. If Al-groove was one of their first artists to perform, I expect they’ll have even more great live shows soon.
- Friday happiness – Tojeiro
Friday happiness aka Pizza Party is a well-known party in the mountains of Tojeiro. It’s about a 20-30 minute drive from Lagos and is accessible via Uber/Bolt, hitchhiking, or private shuttle. The venue is a commune by day that transforms into a magical music venue each Friday night.
There are three stages of music, each with a unique vibe, wood fired pizzas until around 22:30, and music that goes until 6-7 am. It’s a unique experience, and the place I take every live music lover when they come to visit.

You really have to see it to believe it. To give you a little taste, check out my Live for Live Music Portugal article to see what our first experience was like. I included an entire section on it!
- The Laundry Lounge – Sagres
Head all the way to the western tip of Portugal, and you’ll find The Laundry Lounge in Sagres. This is a great spot for people doing a surf retreat and spending the night in Sagres. There are day buses to Sagres, but there aren’t any night bus options here from Lagos. It’s only about 40 minutes by car. So if there is a show you want to see, you can Uber/Bolt.
- Nova Beach Club – Burgau
Another Burgau live music option that’s only open in the summer months is Nova Beach Club. It’s easily accessible, once again, via the number 4 bus. This pool party beach club frequently host live music and DJ sets during the day (as well as the evenings).
- FAVO Bistro Bar – Vila do Bispo
Heading west on the way towards Sagres, you can find live music at FAVO Bistro Bar in Vila do Bispo. They host a variety of musicians and all-day events, making it a fun venue when you want to experience a new scene outside of Lagos. It’s not really accessible with public transportation, so ride share is going to be your best bet.
- P.O.I.S. events in Portimão
P.O.I.S. Cultural Association hosts street fests in the nearby city of Portimão. InDireita Festival hosts many talented musicians from around Portugal, and has a great outdoor environment. Follow the P.O.I.S. social media pages to see when the next installment is taking place!
Portimão is easily accessible from Lagos via bus, train, and rideshare.
These venues and areas around Lagos, Portugal are our favorites for finding live music whenever we need to dance it out (which happens multiple times per week for us). Although I consider these the best venues in Lagos, there are even more places to find live music. Follow the local musicians on socials, look up the community events on the Lagos city website, and experience as much as you can on your next trip here!
