When you think of EuroSummer, you might imagine lazy days on the beach or sipping wine in the French countryside. But for us at Roam Away From Home, this summer is going to look a little different — more like an episode of The Amazing Race.
We’re packing our bags, grabbing our clue cards, and setting off on a whirlwind trip through Slovenia and Croatia (plus Austria, Germany, and Portugal) — inspired by one of our favorite TV shows of all time. We’re calling it The Amazing Race (Taylor’s Version) – worked a Swiftie reference in there somehow…
👉 Check out our EuroSummer itinerary & travel route on this map for a quick overview:
From Portugal to Slovenia: Starting the Race
Our route kicks off in Lagos, Portugal, where we hop a train to Faro, catch a flight to Vienna, and then roll into Ljubljana, Slovenia by train. Ljubljana will be our base for diving into some of the most epic outdoor adventures we’ve ever done.
From there, it’s straight to Lake Bled for:
- Canyoning through turquoise streams
- Kayaking across the lake
- Hiking mountain trails with unbelievable views
- Racing down alpine slides (tobogganing!)
Every activity on this leg of the journey is inspired by a past episode of The Amazing Race.

Crossing Into Croatia: New Clues Ahead
After Slovenia, we’ll head back to Ljubljana before boarding a bus south to Zagreb, Croatia. From Zagreb, the race continues through smaller towns before reaching the coast in Dubrovnik.

Croatia promises a mix of historic cities, Adriatic views, and more challenges straight from The Amazing Race. We’re already daydreaming about wandering cobblestone streets, jumping into the sea, and following the same paths contestants once raced along.
Why The Amazing Race?
We’re obsessed with The Amazing Race. The challenges, the adrenaline, the way it highlights destinations around the world — it’s our travel dream show. While we’re not contestants (yet 👀), this trip is our way of bringing the race to life.
Our Slovenia adventures in particular follow the exact route the show filmed. We even sprinkled in activities they highlighted in Switzerland and France for good measure.
So think of this EuroSummer trip as part vacation, part personal reality show.
What’s Next on Our EuroSummer Itinerary
After Croatia, our route takes us through Cologne, Germany for an extended layover, then back home to Portugal. It’s a packed itinerary, but that’s exactly how we love to travel — with a little chaos, a lot of laughter, and plenty of adventure.
Follow Along
This is just the beginning of our EuroSummer in Slovenia and Croatia. We’ll be recording everything — from racing down mountains to stumbling through language barriers — and turning it into stories you can follow here and on our YouTube channel playlist.
👉 Make sure you’re subscribed to catch every leg of our Amazing Race-inspired journey.
Until then — clue in hand, backpacks strapped, let’s race.
